Gujarat Raises Number Of I-T Payers By 2.1 Mn In A Year

The state Income Tax Department's collection has also doubled in the last five years, rising from Rs 50,343 crore in 2020 to Rs 92,176 crore in 2024

There has been a remarkable increase in both the number of income tax payers and the income generated from taxes in Gujarat. In the past year alone, the total number of tax payers increased by 2.1 million, with the total income rising to Rs 92,176 crore, which shows an increase of Rs 8,414 crore compared to the previous year.

According to the statistics provided by the Chief Income Tax Commissioner of Ahmedabad and shared during the budget announcement by Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, the number of income tax payers in Gujarat has reached 12,124,228, up from 10,068,649 in the previous year.

Looking at the detailed statistics from the Finance Department, of the total registered tax payers in Gujarat, the number of companies stands at 122,005. Individual tax payers total 10,930,312. The number of Hindu Undivided Families (HUF) is 470,914, while the number of partnerships is 503,251. The total number of trusts is 24,945, and the number of other taxpayers is 72,761.

The Chief Income Tax Commissioner stated that the corporate tax revenue has reached Rs 43,054.28 crore, while personal income tax has contributed Rs 49,122.62 crore, resulting in a total collection of Rs 92,176.90 crore. The number of new tax return filers in Gujarat is higher than the national average, which is extremely significant for the country's development.
