Gujarat is making significant strides toward hosting major international sporting events, with its bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympics gaining momentum.
In a major boost to its aspirations, an Australian delegation has expressed keen interest in investing in Gujarat’s sports sector. At the same time, the state government has invited Australia to take advantage of Gujarat’s progressive sports policy and collaborate in the development of sports equipment and infrastructure.
The Australia-India Sports Excellence Forum, being held at GIFT City, Gandhinagar between March 5 and March 6, serves as a crucial platform for discussions on Gujarat’s potential to host the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.
The forum has brought together experts and officials from both nations, focusing on upgrading sports facilities, refining bidding strategies, and leveraging Australia’s expertise in sports science and high-performance technology.

Gujarat Minister of Sports, Youth Service, and Cultural Activities, Harsh Sanghavi, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the mutual learning opportunities and the potential for creating a competitive sporting environment. With shared excellence in cricket, hockey, and other disciplines, both countries aim to enhance their cooperation for future sporting success.
