Gujarat Cancels Holidays For Govt Staff Amid India-Pak Tension

With critical departments on emergency duty, government programs delayed, and district officials coordinating security efforts, Gujarat prepares for any potential crisis

Amid rising tension between India and Pakistan, the Gujarat government has moved into high alert. All leaves for officials in key departments like Home, Revenue, and Health have been cancelled with immediate effect. Police officers, doctors, and medical teams have been ordered to stay on duty round the clock, ready to respond if needed.

At the same time, several government programmes—both small and big—have been pushed back for now. Even the ruling BJP has chosen to pause any upcoming events. The government has started sending senior officials to different districts to keep things under control, especially near the borders in Banaskantha and Kutch. There, the district collectors are working closely with the DSP, keeping a constant watch and making sure the link between the local administration and the state government stays strong. They are also working hard to keep people calm and prevent the spread of misinformation. Care is also being taken that no anti-social elements spread false rumours.

On Friday morning, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar. He was joined by Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi and Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi. Together, they reviewed updates from across the state, especially from service areas like Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan, and Jamnagar.

The Chief Minister has asked all district control rooms and emergency operation centers to stay open and fully active to tackle any situation. He also stressed the importance of backup communication tools—like satellite phones and hotlines—in case regular networks go down.

Also present in the meeting were several senior officials who play key roles in the state’s administration. These included M.K. Das, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, and the Director General of Police Development Assistance. Additional chief secretaries of Revenue, and Energy, and principal secretaries of departments like Urban Development, Industries, Water Supply, Civil Supplies, Transport and Disaster Management were also present. Secretary to the Chief Minister, Avantika Singh, was there too along with officers from central agencies—including the Army, Air Force, and BSF.
