Abhishek Kumar holds an engineering degree from IIT Kanpur. He is currently holding the post of Deputy Director in the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), under the Department of Revenue. According to officials in the DoPT, he will take up his new assignment at the earliest, and instructions have accordingly been issued to his cadre controlling authority to relieve him immediately.
The government on Friday issued an order appointing 2015-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Abhishek Kumar as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles.
In an order issued this evening the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) said, “Abhishek Kumar, IRS (C&lT: 2015), who was recommended for Central deputation by the D/o Revenue has been selected for appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier.”
Kumar has held several positions in the central revenue departments functioning in the state of Gujarat. He is currently a Deputy Director at the DRI in Gandhidham city of Kutch district of Gujarat. Previously, he also worked as a Deputy Commissioner (Customs) in Ahmedabad and as an Assistant Commissioner in the Central GST department.
It is also learnt from reliable sources that Kumar played a key role in the transition from Central Excise and Service Tax regime to the Goods & Services Tax (GST) regime in Mehsana and Palanpur Divisions of Gujarat.
Before joining the IRS, he had worked as a Senior Inspection Engineer at the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in Panipat, as a company professional. He is a graduate of IIT Kanpur with a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Materials Engineering.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the DoPT announced the premature repatriation of 2008-batch IAS officer Saurav Pahari to his parent cadre, West Bengal. He is currently holding the post of Deputy Chairperson of the Tea Board in Kolkata under the Department of Commerce.
In the order the DoPT said, “Kumar has been repatriated on personal grounds, with the condition of ‘extended cooling off’, as he would be eligible for another central deputation only after March 14, 2030, which is three years after the completion of his normal deputation tenure on March 14, 2027.”
