The Gujarat government has appointed senior IPS officer Anupam Singh Gahlaut (1997 batch) as the new Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City. The Home Department issued an official notification announcing the transfer and appointment on Wednesday.

Following the appointment of G.S. Malik as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat, the vacant post of Ahmedabad Police Commissioner has been filled by appointing Anupam Singh Gahlaut.

According to the notification, Gahlaut, who has been serving as the Commissioner of Police, Surat City, has been transferred and posted as the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City.

In a significant administrative decision, the state government has also downgraded the ex-cadre post of Ahmedabad Police Commissioner from the Director General of Police (DGP) rank to a cadre post in the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) rank. Gahlaut has been appointed against this newly designated vacant cadre post.

The notification has been issued by Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Secretary, Home Department, by order and in the name of the Governor of Gujarat.
