Govt reshuffles officials In Union Territories And North Eastern States Administration

IAS Rajeev Verma, who has been serving as the Chief Secretary of Puducherry since May 2022, will be replaced by 1994-batch IAS officer Sharat Chauhan.

Ahead of the parliamentary polls, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has effected a major reshuffle of bureaucrats and Police officials. The appointments and transfer orders issued by the MHA will effect changes in the administration of union territories as well as North Eastern states, which include Delhi, Puducherry; Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Ladakh, and Andaman and Nicobar islands besides Chandigarh.

The Government has posted three senior AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre officers in three Union Territories, including the national capital territory of Delhi.

The Govt has also brought Rajeev Verma, a 1992 batch IAS, to Chandigarh as the Advisor to the Administrator. He was currently serving as the Chief Secretary of Puducherry. The post is equivalent to Chief Secretary in states and was lying vacant following the superannuation of Dharampal, a 1988-batch IAS officer, in October 2023.

Verma, who had been serving as the Chief Secretary of Puducherry since May 2022, will be replaced by 1994-batch IAS officer Sharat Chauhan. Chauhan was the Principal Secretary, Finance, Planning, and Investment in Arunachal Pradesh, as the CS of Puducherry.

In Delhi, Navin Kumar Choudhary, a 1994-batch officer, is set to be appointed either in the Delhi administration or in the New Delhi Municipal Council. Chaudhary was serving as the Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department in the Mizoram Government.

The MHA has reshuffled as many as 30 bureaucrats across the AGMUT cadre — 17 IAS and 13 IPS who have been moved around in the various UTS and states.

While four IAS and seven IPS officers have been transferred out from Delhi, three IAS, and five IPS officers have been brought to the national Capital.
