Govt Makes Appointments In Foreign Missions And Multilateral Bodies

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared the appointment of seven officers to foreign and captive posts of the Government of India on Friday

The government made appointments of seven officers in foreign missions and on the captive posts of the country in multilateral bodies on Friday, including Vikas Sheel as the Executive Director of the Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Sheel, a 1994-batch IAS officer who was the Additional Secretary and Mission Director in the Jal Jeevan Mission, has been made the ADB executive director for a period of three years, the government said in a notification.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared the appointment of six other officers to foreign and captive posts of the Government of India. They are:

1.Senthil Pandian, a 2002-batch IAS officer of the UP cadre, has been appointed as Permanent Representative of India to the Geneva-based World Trade Organisation (WTO). Pandian replaces Brajendra Navnit, who will complete his three-year tenure on March 31. The joint secretary-level post in the Permanent Mission of India functions under the Department of Commerce.

2.M Balaji, a 2005-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been made the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian embassy in Brussels for three years. Balaji replaces Debasish Prusty, who too will complete his tenure on March 31.

3.Parveen Kumar, an IRS officer of the 2004 batch, was appointed as adviser to the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund for three years. Kumar replaces Simanchala Dash.

4.Smita Sarangi, an IAS officer of the 2008 batch, was appointed as adviser to the Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank for three years. She replaces H Atheli.

5.Kalyan Revella, a 2010-batch IRS officer, was appointed Counsellor (Economic) in the Indian embassy in Beijing for three years.

6.Tanu Singh, a 2012-batch Indian Trade Service officer, was appointed First Secretary in the Permanent Mission of India to the WTO for three years. Tanu Singh is currently Deputy Secretary in the Department of Justice. She replaces Anwar Hussain Shaik, who is completing his tenure on March 31.
