To ensure stability in the leadership positions at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the government has issued an order extending the tenures of the agency’s two Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) for one and two years, respectively.
The first among the two officers is Vijendra Kumar, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the 2007 batch, who has been working as the DIG in the CBI. He has been given an extension in his deputation to the investigating agency for one year till July 19, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
With this extension, his total term in the CBI will be nine years, a rare long stint in the agency, reflecting the government’s confidence in his investigative capabilities and leadership qualities.
The other officer is Nirmala Devi, a 2009-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) of the Maharashtra cadre. She has been given an extension of two years to serve in the CBI till July 2027 or until further orders, whichever is earlier. With this extension, she will complete seven years in the CBI.
With the two officers continuing in the CBI, the government has retained the experienced officers overseeing high-profile probes and ensured operational continuity in ongoing complex investigations. The decision is also aligned with DoPT norms for critical leadership roles.
