GIFT City Boss Tapan Ray To Get A 3-Month Extension, Announcement To Follow Soon

The government has decided to extend Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City Managing Director and Group CEO Tapan Ray's term for three months. A Gujarat cadre IAS officer, Ray’s term as the head of GIFT City was to end on June 10.

Reliable sources confirmed the development to The Secretariat. The government is expected to make the official announcement soon. 

A 1982 batch IAS officer, Ray will complete six years as the head of GIFT City next week. Located in Gandhinagar, GIFT City, the first of its kind, is being developed as a premier international financial centre much on lines of Singapore and Dubai.

It will come up as as a global financial and technology hub, offering single-window clearances and approvals under one umbrella.

To make investments easier, it also provides a plug-and-play infrastructure for businesses seeking unparalleled accelerated growth.

Earlier this year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed a host of incentives to develop the International Financial Services Centre at GIFT City.

Ray took over at GIFT City after returning from Delhi, where he had held key posts in central ministries. 

According to an earlier report published by The Secretariat, Ray has been instrumental in developing the GIFT city, which has attracted domestic and international interest. 

More than 550 entities are now operational with the city, collectively employing over 20,000 professionals. 

Spanning over three decades, Ray’s career includes important assignments at the Centre in ministries such as Defence, Textiles, Power, Planning, Science and Technology. He also served as Additional Chief Secretary in Gujarat's Finance Department. His corporate experience spans over 12 years in various public sector roles at both the state and national levels, including five years as Managing Director of the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Group of Companies.
