However, unlike electoral politics which involves promises and ground level campaigns to convince the people at large, policy-making involves expertise, good science, careful thinking and considered judgement. That is, generating persuasion through professionals and domain experts. Our new initiative, The Secretariat, understands fully well that policy-making is not politics by other means but, in fact, the other side of the coin. And today, more than ever, perhaps, the intervention of the professional and domain expert has become urgent and needed. In part, because of the realisation that we need to cut through a very noisy world of conflicting ideas and assessments in order to create a space for both informed judgement and clear articulation. Towards this, the strength of The Secretariat is the commitment that we will be bringing together domain experts, media influencers, bureaucrats and policy wonks on subjects of public interest. We will adopt a dive-deep approach to not only unpack and study policy-making but become a credible and meaningful platform for stakeholders who are aiming to find practical and implementable solutions. With insightful analyses, easy-to-grasp explainers and data-driven journalism, we hope to enrich the public policy discourse and become a contributor to economic progress, as India moves forward on the world stage. We will focus on five key themes – Digitalising Economy, Sustainability, Future Of Work, Urbanising India and Geo-Economics. Of course, our coverage of these themes will be set in a larger context, which is why we will also be keeping a close watch on the broader economy and all such developments that influence its growth trajectory. The functioning of the government and bureaucracy at the Centre and the states will also be a focus of our coverage, besides tracking the people and processes behind policy making. At The Secretariat, we believe we are meeting an urgent, necessary and timely demand in a rapidly growing economy, without losing sight of the fact that all changes must be directed towards consolidating a robust and vibrant democracy. That said, The Secretariat can not achieve its goals without your support, participation and valuable feedback. To be sure, what you are exploring now is a beta version of our offering. Going forward, we will expand, modify and improvise, based on what we hear from you. Our content sits in two buckets – the Daily Skim and the Deep Dive. The former is free to access; the latter requires you to sign up and offers us an opportunity to build a relationship. Hence, we urge you to sign up. Together, we will surely make The Secretariat a great success. Thank you
