The Election Commission (EC) of India has transferred four Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in Tamil Nadu, ahead of the Legislative Assembly election in the State.

In a letter, the EC said that it had reviewed the poll preparedness for the upcoming Legislative Assembly election in Tamil Nadu.

The following IPS officers have been transferred: D.N. Harikiran Prasad (2016 batch) has been posted as Superintendent of Police (SP), Karur; D.V. Kiran Shruthi (2018 batch) has been posted as the SP, Erode; and Sujith Kumar and N. Shreenatha (both 2013 batch) have been posted as the SPs in Nagapattinam and Virudhunagar, respectively.

The directive follows the Commission’s review of poll preparedness in the state. Administrative reshuffles, particularly in the police and district administration, are a routine measure by the EC to ensure that law and order is maintained during elections.

The directive was issued by Lata Tripathi, Secretary of the Election Commission.

Tamil Nadu goes to the polls on April 23. Votes will be counted on May 4.
