Former Secretary Of Department Of Public Enterprises Ali Raza Rizvi Tipped To Be PESB Member

With over 30 years of experience and a recent retirement as Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises, Rizvi is seen as a strong contender to fill the vacant post

To fill a long-vacant position, the Government of India is reportedly considering appointing Ali Raza Rizvi, a retired 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, as one of the three members of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), The Secretariat has learnt.

The position has been lying vacant since April 11, 2024, when Sailesh, a retired 1985-batch IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, completed his tenure at the PESB.

PESB is responsible for selecting top-level executives for public sector companies in India. It helps the government choose qualified people for leadership positions, like chairpersons or managing directors.

Notably, Rizvi retired as Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises on July 31, 2024, making him a highly qualified candidate for the new role.

The appointment of a member in PESB is imperative because several other posts will also become vacant in the next few weeks. The Chairperson and the senior-most Member will vacate the Board on completion of their respective tenure this year.

Chairperson Mallika Srinivasan will conclude her term in November, whereas member Amarjeet Sinha, an IAS officer of the Bihar Cadre of the 1983 batch, will conclude his term in December.

With over three decades of service, Rizvi began his career as an Assistant Commissioner and has held several key positions in both the Union Government and his cadre state, Himachal Pradesh. He spent over a decade in district administration, including roles as Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kinnaur and Mandi districts.

Throughout his career, Rizvi has worked across various departments at the centre and in the state, including Personnel & Training (DoPT), Commerce, Information & Broadcasting, and Health & Family Welfare.
