Former law secretary Raj Kumar Goyal, appointed as Chief Central Information Commissioner (CIC), will take the oath on Monday. President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath, according to a notification.
Goyal, a 1990-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, will succeed the 65-year-old Heeralal Samariya, who demitted office on September 13, 2025. The post of CIC has been lying vacant since then. Samariya was the first Dalit CIC of the country.
Along with Goyal, eight others — most of whom are retired bureaucrats — will also take over as information commissioners. The information commissioners will take oath before Goyal.
Jaya Varma Sinha, who served as the first woman Chairman of the Railway Board, Swagat Das, a former IPS officer, retired CSS officer former Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs Sanjeev Kumar Jindal, former IAS officer Surendra Singh Meena and ex-Indian Forest Service officer Khushwant Singh Sethi are among the Information Commissioners (ICs) appointed.
Sudha Rani Relangi, Member (Legal), Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board and senior journalists P R Ramesh and Ashutosh Chaturvedi will also take oath as ICs.
