Amidst reports of increased infiltration in the Jammu region and a spate of terror attacks, the Ministry of Home Affairs has cracked down and shunted out the Director General (DG) and his deputy of the Border Security Force (BSF).
The BSF DG Nitin Agarwal and his deputy YB Khurania have been removed and repatriated to their parent cadre to Kerala and Odisha respectively. Amrit Mohan Prasad has been appointed as the Special DG, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Prasad is a 1989 batch IPS officer of Odisha cadre. He has earlier served in Indo-Tibetan Border Police. Khuarania is also from the Odisha cadre and may take over Prasad’s job in that state, according to sources. The outgoing DG Nitin Agarwal is a 1989 IPS from Kerala cadre.
The crackdown has been carried out reportedly after a meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has allegedly shown his displeasure over increasing infiltration by terrorists in the Jammu region.
The Centre is yet to make the new appointments for the BSF, which protects borders in the country and particularly in sensitive Jammu and Kashmir and other regions.
Director General Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Daljit Singh Chawdhary will hold the additional charge of BSF India till the appointment of the regular incumbent.
