The Government of India has appointed 2012 batch IFS officer Dhiraj Mittal of Gujarat cadre as Deputy Secretary in Food and Public Distribution. He will serve in this post till July 2026. He is currently serving as Assistant Inspector General of Forests in the Ministry of MoEF&CC.
He worked as a researcher in the Department of Plant Molecular Biology, Delhi University South Campus from 2006 to 2012, after which he joined the Indian Forest Service in September 2012. He joined Gujarat's Dang South Forest Division as Deputy Conservator of Forests and Gir West Forest Division as Deputy Conservator of Forests. He works as Assistant Forest Inspector in a Ministry of the Government of India.
Originally from Uttar Pradesh, this officer wants to pursue a career in policy making, planning and project management. His favorite topics are forest and wildlife management, biodiversity, forest ecology, sustainable development, green economics, climate change, environmental governance and tribal development.
Two years ago, he attended the Conference on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals in Bonn, Germany as a representative of India.
