Devang Thaker Reappointed As MS, GPCB For One Year

This officer, serving as an environmental engineer in the board, was set to retire on April 30; he currently holds the charge of Member Secretary

Devang M. Thaker, an Environmental Engineer with the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), has been appointed to a one-year contractual position by the State Forest and Environment Department. The appointment will commence following his retirement on April 30, 2025. As per an official order issued by Deputy Secretary Maulika Shah, Thaker will also hold additional charge as Member Secretary of the GPCB. The current Chairman of the Board is R.B. Barad.

Recently, Thaker issued a directive requiring all industrial units classified under the Central Pollution Control Board’s Red, Orange, and Green categories to obtain a valid Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consolidated Consent and Authorization (CCA) from GPCB, in line with the Water, Air, and Environmental Protection Acts.

He cautioned that operating without these consents constitutes a punishable offense under environmental laws and warned that legal action, including possible shutdowns, could be initiated against non-compliant units.
