Consumer Affairs Secy Nidhi Khare given MNRE

Nidhi Khare assumes additional charge of MNRE at the centre following appointment of the previous secretary Prashant Kumar Singh as Chief Secretary of Manipur, amidst ongoing ethnic violence in the northeastern state

The government on Tuesday (January 14, 2025) issued an order assigning the additional charge of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) to Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare, a Jharkhand cadre IAS officer of 1992 batch.

It is to be noted here that the position of the Secretary of the MNRE became vacant following repatriation of 1993-batch IAS officer Prashant Kumar Singh to his parent cadre at the request of the Manipur government.

In the  order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) it is said, “The Competent Authority has approved assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to Ms Nidhi Khare, lAS (JH:1992), Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution with immediate effect till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

Following the repatriation, Singh was appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Manipur which has been witnessing intermittent ethnic violence following the first outbreak of clashes between Kuki and Meitei groups in May 2023.
