LK Atheeq, a 1991-batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, has been appointed the additional chief secretary (ACS) in the Chief Minister’s Office, in his second stint in the CMO headed by Siddaramaiah.
Atheeq will additionally hold the charge of ACS (Finance), virtually making him the most powerful bureaucrat in the Karnataka government.
Earlier, he served as CM Siddaramaiah’s principal secretary from 2016-2018.
He also served in the World Bank in Washington DC in 2012 as a senior advisor to its executive director. He was sent to the World Bank when he was in the PMO during the UPA dispensation.
He first joined the PMO as director and subsequently became a joint secretary. He joined the PMO in August 2007.
Atheeq, who was an agriculture economist before joining the IAS, also holds a degree in public administration from a US university.
