The Centre has repatriated Vijoy Kumar Singh, Secretary, Ex Servicemen Welfare Department in the Defence Ministry, to his parent cadre Punjab at the “request of the state government,” a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said late Tuesday.
Singh is a 1990-batch IAS officer.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved repatriation of ShriVijoy Kumar Singh, IAS (PB:90), Secretary, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, to his parent cadre on the request of Government of Punjab,” said the notification.
What prompted the Punjab Government to seek his repatriation is yet unclear since Singh will be the senior-most bureaucrat in the state cadre, where Chief Secretary Anurag Verma, a 1993-batch IAS officer, took over just six months ago.
The Aam Aadmi Party Government had elevated Verma as chief secretary in July 2023 by superseding 11 IAS officers senior to him, out of which seven are serving in Punjab and four are on central deputation.
