Centre Extends Tenure Of Two IGs In Special Protection Group

As per the notification, Suresh’s extension is beyond March 3, 2024, whereas Bhagat’s extension will be effective beyond 20th May 2024

The Centre has granted an extension of one year each to two Inspector General (IG) rank IPS officers S Suresh and Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat. Suresh, a 1995 batch IPS of Kerala cadre and Bhagat, a 1998 batch IPS of Gujarat cadre are serving in the elite force of the Special Protection Group (SPG) that is tasked to provide security to the Prime Minister.

As per the notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on Tuesday, Suresh’s extension is beyond March 3, 2024, whereas Bhagat’s extension will be effective beyond 20th May 2024.

Currently, Alok Sharma, a 1991 batch IPS officer of the UP cadre, heads the elite force of nearly 3000 trained officers and commandos that provide security to the Prime Minister in India and abroad. Sharma was appointed as the Director of the SPG in November 2023.
