Centre Extends CBI Director Praveen Sood’s Tenure by One Year

The Centre has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of CBI Director Praveen Sood, ensuring continuity at the helm of the country’s premier investigative agency. The decision was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) based on the recommendations of the Selection Committee, according to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Praveen Sood, a 1986-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre, will continue as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation for another year. His present tenure was scheduled to end on May 24, 2026.

Sood took charge as CBI Director in May 2023 after serving in several key policing and administrative positions, including Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP).
