Centre Appoints 2011-Batch Odisha Cadre IAS Ashish Thakare As Director Of DEPwD

The government on Tuesday issued an order appointing Ashish Thakare, a 2011-batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre, as the Director of the Centre’s Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD).

In an order, the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) said, “The Competent Authority has approved the appointment of Shri Ashish Thakare, lAS (OD: 2011) as Director in the D/o Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier.”

The DoPT order also specified that in accordance with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) guidelines, the officer must join the post within three weeks of the appointment order and failing to do so may result in debarment from future posting under Central Staffing Scheme and foreign assignments.

As the Director of the Department Thakare will be responsible for overseeing policies, programmes, and initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities across India and his appointment reflects the Centre’s ongoing commitment towards inclusion of all sections of the society and social justice in the developmental journey of the country.

With the new assignment Thakare brings extensive administrative experience from his tenure in his home cadre Odisha, where he held several positions. His deputation to a critical central department underscores the importance of collaborative governance between state and central governments.
