CBI Gets Two New SPs, Two Serving DIGs Given Extension

The latest appointments come close on the heels of appointment of two joint-director level officers, who were inducted from Karnataka and Gujarat

Two IPS officers, one each from the Gujarat and the Maharashtra cadre, have been brought to the Centre as Superintendents of Police (SP) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Amit Vasava, a 2016 batch IPS of Gujarat cadre and Suhail Sharma, a 2012 batch IPS from Maharashtra, were among the latest appointments at the country's premier anti-graft agency. Both have been appointed as SP for a tenure of five years each, a government notification said. Their induction into the central agency came a few days after V Chandrasekhar from Gujarat was brought in as Joint Director at the agency.

Additionally, the government has also extended the tenure of two serving DIGs in the CBI. As per the notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the tenures of Abhishek Shandilya and Sadanand Date, both working as Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), have been extended by the Central government.

Shandilya is a 2007-batch IPS officer in the Chhattisgarh cadre and he has been given a year's extension with retrospective effect from September 6, 2023. Date's tenure has been extended by two years with effect from October 16, 2023 to October 15, 2025.

Lately, the Centre has made a number of appointments at the anti-graft agency, which probes high profile corruption and graft cases involving political figures, bureaucrats and central PSUs.

Earlier on November 3, Pravin Pawar, a 2003 batch IPS of Karnataka cadre, was picked to be the Joint Director at CBI for a period of five years. Subsequently on November 7, Gujarat’s V Chandrasekhar was named as the joint director in his second stint with the federal agency. Last month, two Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officers -- Deepak Damor of the 2001 batch and Pradip Kumar of 2003 batch -- were inducted into the CBI at Joint Director level. Both were moved from the Border Security Force (BSF) to the CBI for a period extending up to June 2027.
