By End-2025, 19 Gujarat IAS Officers Set To Retire

Three officers, including former OSD of CMO N N Dave retired in March, while Kamal Dayani, J P Gupta will retire in July, and Sunayna Tomar, S J Haider will complete their tenure in December

Up to 19 IAS officers in Gujarat, including Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, are scheduled to retire by the end of 2025. In addition, senior officers Kamal Dayani and J P Gupta, who hold significant responsibilities in various departments, will retire in July, while Sunayna Tomar and S J Haider will retire in December. The list of retirees also includes 15 IAS officers nominated to various posts.

My March-end, 18 IAS officers across India, including three from Gujarat, have also retired. Among them, two each are from Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, and West Bengal, while one each are from Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh.

With the entry of young IAS officers in Gujarat’s administrative structure, the number of retiring officers is gradually decreasing. Gujarat, which has a total administrative strength of 131, is witnessing a decline in the number of IAS officers, with fewer than 70 officers currently in the IAS cadre. The positions vacated by these retiring officers will also remain vacant. Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, who assumed the position on January 31, will retire in October.

By the end of March, R K Mehta, N N Dave (former OSD of CMO), and S P Bhagara, who are nominated IAS officers, will retire. So will Kamal Dayani, Additional Chief Secretary of GAD, and J P Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Tribal Development Department in July.

Similarly, two senior officers, who played a key role in the previous Vibrant Summit, will retire at the end of the year. They are Sunayna Tomar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher Education Department, and S J Haider, Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department. By the end of the year, four Additional Chief Secretary positions will be vacant in Gujarat.
