The Centre has authorised Vigilance Commissioner A.S. Rajeev to discharge the functions of the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) from August 3, 2026, on an interim basis following the completion of the tenure of incumbent CVC Praveen Kumar Srivastava.

The arrangement, notified by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, will remain in force until a regular Central Vigilance Commissioner is appointed or until further orders.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued a notification on July 31, 2026, stating that the President has authorised A.S. Rajeev, currently serving as a Vigilance Commissioner, to perform the functions of the Central Vigilance Commissioner under Section 10(1) of the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003.

The notification said the arrangement will take effect from August 3, 2026, the day the post falls vacant following the completion of Praveen Kumar Srivastava's tenure.

According to the order, Rajeev will continue to function as the acting Central Vigilance Commissioner until the appointment of a regular CVC or until further orders. The interim arrangement is aimed at ensuring continuity in the functioning of the Commission while the government completes the process of appointing a full-time chief.

The Central Vigilance Commission plays a key role in overseeing vigilance administration and anti-corruption mechanisms across Central Government ministries, departments, public sector undertakings, public sector banks and other organisations under the Union Government. An uninterrupted leadership is considered important for maintaining oversight of vigilance matters and corruption-related investigations falling within its mandate.
