The Centre on Tuesday empanelled 21 IAS officers of 1993 batch to serve as secretary or in secretary equivalent positions in the Union government.
The empanelment order was issued by the Ministry of Personnel after the names of officials were cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister.
Among the 21 officers, 17 have been empanelled as Secretary while the remaining four officers will be posted in the rank of a Secretary, which means they can serve the central deputation on any position which is equivalent to the secretary in the Government of India.
It may be noted that only empanelled officials from the state cadres are selected to serve in the central administration.
Presently in the GoI, the serving secretaries are from 1987 to 1992 and now the officials from the 1993 batch will also be posted in the top echelons of the bureaucracy.
Among others, the list of the 21 officers included Punya Salila Srivatastava who is currently serving as an additional secretary in the Prime Minister's Office and Deepti Umashankar who is the establishment officer in the department of personnel and training.The establishment officer is ex-officio secretary to the ACC and all top personnel matters are handled from the office of the establishment officer.
