The Union government on Tuesday decided to bring a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre on central deputation and assign him the role of Director in the Ministry of Jal Shakti as part of central staffing scheme.

In an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the central government has approved appointment of 2011-batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre Hari Narayanan Murugan as Director in the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The appointment has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme, it added.

As per the order Murugan will serve in the role for a period of five years from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier. “The concerned authorities have been directed to relieve him of his current responsibilities immediately, enabling him to take up the new assignment without delay,” it noted.

Murugan brings with him over a decade of experience in public administration and governance. His appointment is expected to bolster the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation efforts in strengthening access to clean drinking water and improving sanitation across the country, a senior functionary in the Ministry said.

Meanwhile, Prerna Joshi, a 2012-batch officer of the Indian Economic Service (IES), has also been selected for the appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Central Information Commission (CIC) on Tuesday. The appointment has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years from the date she assumes charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the DoPT said in an order.

Joshi was selected to be appointed in the Information Commission following a recommendation by the Department of Economic Affairs for central deputation, the DoPT said in the order, adding that the concerned authorities have been instructed to relieve her of her current assignment with immediate effect to enable her to take up the new position at the earliest.

Having over a decade of experience in economic administration and policy making, Joshi will certainly bring valuable expertise to the Information Commission, which plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability in the government through the effective implementation of the Right to Information Act.
