Amidst raging controversy over the NEET exam and allegations of paper leaks, the Union government has shunted out the Director General of National Testing Agency (NTA) and roped in former union civil aviation secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola to steer the agency that conductive most competitive examinations.
A retired secretary, Kharola has been given the additional charge of the DG, NTA, in addition to holding the postion of chairman and managing director (CMD) of Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). Kharola is a retired 1985 batch IAS officer belonging to Karnataka cadre.
The incumbent DG of NTA, Subodh Kumar Singh, has been placed under compulsory wait in the department of personnel and training (DoPT). Singh is a Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer.
The Centre has been facing the ire of students and parents over the issue of alleged irregularities and paper leaks of the NEET exam. It has also come under increasing attack from opposition parties, which have been emboldened in the wake of the recent parliamentary elections.
