Strong Push for Indigenous Air Power Expected

Air Marshal Dixit is widely known within the Indian Air Force for his role in advancing indigenous aircraft programmes, including the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas and other home-grown aviation projects.

His appointment is significant at a time when the government is placing a strong emphasis on Aatmanirbharta in defence, with greater focus on indigenous fighter aircraft, platforms, weapons systems and domestic defence manufacturing.

His tenure is therefore expected to give further momentum to the IAF’s efforts to strengthen indigenous air power and reduce dependence on foreign platforms.

Commissioned Into Fighter Stream in 1986

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit was commissioned into the Fighter Stream of the Indian Air Force on December 6, 1986.

He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), the Defence Staff Service College, Bangladesh, and the National Defence College (NDC).

Over 3,500 Hours of Flying Experience

With more than 3,500 hours of flying experience, Air Marshal Dixit brings extensive operational and fighter-flying experience to the top position in the IAF.

His career includes significant exposure to operational planning, fighter operations, and the development of indigenous aviation capabilities.

A Key Tenure for IAF Modernisation

Air Marshal Dixit will take over as the Air Force chief at a crucial stage of the IAF’s modernisation programme, with the force simultaneously focusing on combat capability, indigenous platforms, advanced aircraft programmes and defence self-reliance.

His tenure until December 2028 is expected to be closely watched for the direction it gives to India’s indigenous air power ambitions and the next phase of IAF modernisation.
