BSF ADG Shamsher Singh Prematurely Repatriated To Gujarat, Likely To Be Made Police Chief

1991-Batch IPS Officer Repatriated to Gujarat Ahead of Time, May Get Permanent Posting in Place of In-Charge DGP Dr. Rao

IPS Officer, BSF, Shamsher Singh

Indications of a major reshuffle in the Gujarat Police Department have emerged following the Centre’s decision to prematurely repatriate 1991-batch IPS officer Shamsher Singh to his home cadre. Singh is currently serving as Additional Director General in the Border Security Force (BSF).

According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Police-I Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the premature repatriation of Shamsher Singh has been approved with immediate effect. The memorandum states that the date on which the officer will be relieved from his central posting will be communicated to the Ministry in due course.

Copies of the memorandum have been forwarded to the Chief Secretary of Gujarat and the Director General of Police (DGP), indicating that Singh may be entrusted with a significant responsibility in the state upon his return.

Shamsher Singh has held several key positions at both the state and central levels, earning a reputation as one of the most senior and experienced officers of the Gujarat cadre. His return is being viewed as a crucial development amid the ongoing reshuffle and cadre management exercise involving senior IPS officers in the state.

There is strong speculation that the Gujarat government may appoint Shamsher Singh in place of the current in-charge DGP, KL Lakshminarayan Rao, who was recently given additional charge following the completion of former DGP Vikas Sahay’s extension period.

Given his seniority and extensive experience, Shamsher Singh’s induction into the state police leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of Gujarat’s policing and administrative structure.
