The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of three senior IPS officers to key leadership positions in the country’s policing and law enforcement institutions, marking a significant reshuffle at the top level.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on July 6, Alok Kumar Mittal (IPS: 1993 batch, Haryana cadre) has been appointed as Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). He will assume charge from the date of joining and continue in the post until June 30, 2029, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

In another major appointment, Amit Garg (IPS: 1993 batch, Andhra Pradesh cadre), who is currently serving as Director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), has been appointed as the Director, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The post has been temporarily upgraded to the Director General (DG) level on a personal basis. Garg will serve until October 31, 2027, the date of his retirement, or until further orders. He succeeds Alok Ranjan (IPS: 1991 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre).

The ACC has also appointed Sujeet Pandey (IPS: 1994 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre) as the new Director of SVPNPA, Hyderabad. He will take over from Amit Garg and remain in office until July 31, 2028, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders.

The appointments were approved based on the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and formalised through an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
