The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Amit Kumar (IPS: Bihar Cadre, 1994 batch), Special Director General, CRPF, and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Special Protection Group (SPG), as the next Director of the SPG.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday, Amit Kumar will assume charge as Director, SPG, upon the completion of the tenure of the incumbent Director, Alok Sharma (IPS: Uttar Pradesh Cadre, 1991 batch), on March 31, 2027.

The order states that Amit Kumar’s appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of the post. For this purpose, one vacant post in the SPG has been temporarily upgraded to Level-16. His appointment will remain effective until further orders or as otherwise specified.

Amit Kumar is currently serving as Special DG in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and has been posted as Officer on Special Duty in the SPG. With the ACC’s approval, he has now been formally designated to take over the leadership of India’s elite VIP protection force after the completion of the incumbent chief’s tenure next year.
