The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Prashant Sitaram Lokhande, IAS (AGMUT:2001) as Additional Secretary in the Department of Home, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on July 2, 2026, Lokhande, who is currently serving as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) under the Ministry of Education, will also continue to hold the additional charge of CBSE Chairperson.

The order states that Lokhande will retain the CBSE assignment until a regular incumbent is appointed or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

A 2001-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Lokhande’s appointment comes as the Centre strengthens senior-level administrative leadership in the Ministry of Home Affairs while ensuring continuity in the functioning of the country’s premier school education board.
