The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr. Srinivasa Kumar Tummala as the Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Dr. Tummala, who is currently serving as Head of the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) Secretariat under the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) in Perth, Australia, has been appointed to the top post in the Ministry.
He will serve as Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, for a tenure of two years from the date he assumes charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Dr. Tummala is internationally recognized for his expertise in ocean sciences, tsunami early warning systems, disaster risk reduction, and marine observations. His appointment is expected to further strengthen India’s scientific leadership in meteorology, oceanography, climate services, and disaster preparedness.
The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and notified by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on July 16, 2026.
