MHA Notifies 2025 Select List; Officers to Undergo One-Year Probation Before Joining IPS Cadre

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday issued the official notification appointing six officers of the Gujarat Police Service (GPS) to the Indian Police Service (IPS) under the Promotion Quota against the Select List-2025.

The notification, issued under the provisions of the Indian Police Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954 and the Indian Police Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955, states that the President of India has approved their appointment to the IPS on probation. All six officers have been allocated to the Gujarat Cadre.

One-Year Probation, Induction Training Mandatory

As per the MHA notification dated 2 July 2026, all six officers will remain on probation for one year in accordance with the Indian Police Service (Probation) Rules, 1954. They will also undergo mandatory IPS induction training before being confirmed in the service.

Notification Sent to Gujarat Government

Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat, the Director General of Police (DGP), Gujarat, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad, and other concerned authorities for necessary action.

The promotion marks another significant cadre induction for the Gujarat Police, strengthening the state’s IPS leadership through experienced officers drawn from the Gujarat Police Service.
