13 IPS Among 19 Officers From Different Services Empanelled As JS

The Joint Secys can now join central ministries and departments to hold key positions

In a series of orders issued on Wednesday, the Union government empanelled 19 officers belonging to different services, as Joint Secretaries at the Centre, including 13 IPS officers of different cadres from the 2003 and 2004 batches.

Among IPS officers of the 2003 cadre, C Nagaraju is from the Kerala cadre, Anurag and Harinarayanachari Mishra from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Nikhil Kumar Kanodia from the Odisha cadre, Shahnawaz Qasim from the Telangana cadre, and Anish Prasad from the Tripura cadre. 

Similarly, from the 2004 batch are Gagandeep Gambhir of the Gujarat cadre, Satender Kumar Gupta of the Haryana cadre, Anup Kuruvilla John (Kerala) Nitinjeet Singh (Odisha), Ruchika Rishi (Sikkim), Asra Garg (Tamil Nadu), and Mitesh Jain (West Bengal).

Only one IAS officer — Antara Acharya from the West Bengal cadre of the 2006 batch — has been empanelled as Joint Secretary at the Centre. 

The rest are from other services, including the Indian Forest Service (IFoS) — Gopal Singh (Bihar: 2003) and S P Anandh Kumar (Punjab: 2003); the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) — Mohammad Isharar Ali (2001); and the Central Secretariat Service (CSS) — Ziley Singh Vical and M Subramanian.

With their empanelment as Joint Secretaries, these officers are now eligible for appointments in the central government at key positions in ministries and departments. Such positions are critical in shaping and implementing national policy and overseeing major administrative functions.
